Located in a site with scenic view Villa Nuuttila rises

on a slope like an Italian mountain lodge. This

charming villa awoke attention already during

construction. This is one of many small buildings
Bryggman designed that shows the tremendous

talent and ability this architect had to create both

humane and nature-friendly architecture.

A delicate, modern (but not too much) school by W.M. Dudok. Notice its "Wrightian" arched entrance with red and blue glazed bricks.

Querido David,

A la izquierda de la foto se puede reconocer uno de

los edificios que el arquitecto, urbanista y periodista

israelí Salomon Gepstein diseñó y construyó en

Tel-Aviv en la década de los años 1930 en estilo

Bauhaus. Afortunadamente el edificio todavía se

conserva en perfecto estado ya que ha sido

recientemente renovado.

1670. Edificio de Correos, Santa Rosa, Argentina

Querido Roberto,

Como el resto de la serie de edificios para Correos y
Telecomunicaciones construidos en Argentina entre los años 1947 y 1955, éste en Santa Rosa está claramente inspirado en el edificio Gustavo Capanema inaugurado en Rio de Janeiro en 1945 y proyectado por Costa, Leão, Niemeyer, Reidy, Vasconcellos y Machado, con el asesoramiento de Le Corbusier.

Querida Mónica,

La fotografía de esta postal antigua muestra un escorzo casi completo del edificio de 15 plantas que la pionera firma Cuéllar Serrano Gómez levantó en Bogotá en 1948. Se da la circunstancia de que en la segunda mitad de la década de los 40 Gabriel Serrano viajó por Brasil y tuvo ocasión de conocer y dejarse influir por la arquitectura de Oscar Niemeyer.

The sanatorium for the treatment of pulmonary diseases

was built between 1936 and 1938 according to the

functionalist architectural plans by Ferdinand Fencl.

Dear Rob,

The building for the Oranje Nassau Company Headquarters was designed by Rick Roosenburg in 1931 according to the functionalist principles. In 1996 the building was restored and painted all green instead of its original white.

This old buildings were inspired by the nostalgic Metaphysical paintings of Giorgio de Chirico and

Carlo Carrà. The Red Tower of 1913 by Chirico

and After the Sunset of 1927 by Carrà are just good examples to illustrate that idea.

Aalto hablaba de su famoso sanatorio en Paimio

como un "instrumental médico" porque su arquitectura

era para él una parte más al servicio de la curación de

los pacientes que por el pasaban.
Este conjunto está en proceso de convertirse en parte de

la lista de lugares Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la

UNESCO.

Espero que estés bien. Aquí te mando una postal muy

antigua del Círculo de Bellas Artes, que fue enviada el

mismo año que el edificio se inauguró. El arquitecto,

Antonio Palacios, fue también el de edificios tan conocidos como el Palacio de Comunicaciones, el Hospital de Jornaleros de Maudes o el de la sede del Instituto Cervantes. Su obra ecléctica tiene influencias

de la arquitectura de Otto Wagner y de la Escuela de Chicago.

He encontrado por casualidad alguna información

sobre Javier Goerlich el arquitecto municipal y mayor

de Valencia desde 1924 hasta 1956 que influyó

notablemente en la reformas urbanas del centro y en el

perfil de la ciudad moderna. En la foto de la postal se

puede ver una joya de la arquitectura racionalista diseñada por él que fue lamentablemente derribada en 1984.

Los antiguos almacenes Schocken de Chemnitz en una
foto postal posterior a 1945 cuando fueron convertidos
en H.O. Warehaus. Hoy en día albergan el Museo de
Arqueología del estado para lo cual fue restaurado a
su forma original a la vez que adaptado a su nuevo uso
en 2015.

This charming building was the home of the
world's first museum of mass-produced design.
The building was originally a former 1940s
banana warehouse and was converted to
resemble a building in the international Modernist
Style of the 1930s. In fact, people used to call it
"Bauhaus on Thames"
