2419. La Réserve. Restaurant et Centre Balnéaire. Agadir

Dear David,

The spectacular restaurant "La Réserve" was a
sumptuous annex of the "Marhaba" hotel.
Its original rounded shapes rising from the sand
on three rounded piers at the edge of the dunes and
the ocean collapsed during the terrible 1960
earthquake that almost destroyed the entire city of
Agadir.

Best regards,
R

2134. Sidi-Harazem Hotel

Dear David,

Moroccan-French architect Jean-François Zevaco
was commissioned by the local Ministry of Public
Works to design and develop the entire Sidi Harazem
Thermal Bath Complex near Fez. He also supervised
the hotel built by Patrice Mazières and Abdeslem
Faraoui.

Best regards,
R

1859. Centre Ville Agadir

Dear Jean

The building "A" in the center of Agadir was built by
Tastemain and Rioux as part of the reconstruction plan
after the great earthquake of 1959.

Querido Linus,

"Examínenlo atentamente para que sepan reconocerlo,
si algún día, viajando por África cruzan el desierto. Si
por casualidad pasan por allí, no se apresuren, se los ruego, y deténganse un poco, precisamente bajo la estrella. Si un niño llega hasta ustedes, si este niño ríe y tiene cabellos de oro y nunca responde a sus preguntas, adivinarán en seguida quién es."
(Antoine de Saint-Exupéry-El Principito)

1062. Tanger. Boulevar Pasteur

Tito,

Algun dia tu y yo volveremos a pasear
juntos. Esa vez podremos ir a lugares
lejanos donde tu soñabas visitar.
Pero primero iremos a Madrid y
pasaremos junto al edificio Capitol en
la Plaza del Callao.
Luego, ya si, como sin darnos cuenta,
iremos a Tanger y veremos el edificio
Goicoechea en el siempre animado
bulevar Pasteur.

Besos,

1052. Larache. Casa del Flecha

Estimado Sergio,

culturas.

Afectuosamente,
R

762. Casablanca. Paso subterraneo Plaza Mohammed V

Dear Friedrich,

These are two postcards showing one an exterior
outlook and the other an interior view of the United Nations Plaza pedestrian underpass designed by
Jean-François Zevaco in 1975. The site has been
recently restored by a local architect after years of abandonment. Unfortunately the colorful stained glass pieces couldn't be replaced to replicate the original Zevaco's creation.

664. Rabat, L'Hôpital Avicenne

Dear Silke,

After spending some days in Fes and Meknes, today we
have arrived in Rabat. We finally saw the Ocean and some
good architecture with nautical flavor.

Take care.

630. Vue de l'horloge des pompiers, Agadir

Dear David,

Jean-François Zevaco's Fire Station in Agadir is a building
arranged around an incomplete circular courtyard that
resembles the moon shape. A great lesson of combining
function with art is condensed in this building.

Warm regards,
R

570. Agadir, La Poste

Dear David,

Thanks to you and to your great blog
archipostcard.blogspot.com I discovered the fascinating
work of French-Moroccan architect Jean-François
Zevaco. It is hard to believe there is not much published
information about his work. Buildings like the
Physiotherapy Center and the Clubhouse both in Tit
Mellil, the Sidi Harazem Thermal Bath Complex in Fez,
the Beni-Mellal Courthouse in Beni-Mellal, or the Fire
Station in Agadir, deserve our admiration and better
knowledge.

Warm regards.

499. Sidi Harazen, Piscine Circulaire

Dear Emile,

In Fez, at the site of the shrine of Sidi Harazem, there is
an outstanding thermal bath complex designed by
Jean-François Zevaco. The architecture of this place is
full of delicious references to Le Corbusier and Niemeyer
creations.

Regards.

496. Agadir. La Reserve

Dear David,

I found this great postcard and thought you would love it.
It is sad though to think that this splendid structure
disappeared in the horrific earthquake that in 1960 almost
destroyed the entire city of Agadir.

Best.
