Dear Timo,

The church and the bell tower of the 
Meilahti church was designed by 
architect Markus Tavio back in 1938.
The bell tower houses a bell originally
intended for the Vyborg Cathedral
with the inscription Pro Viburgo that
was eventually donated to this church.

Dear Kenneth,

The Muuratsalo House near Jyväskylä is a small 
summer residence that Alvar and Elissa Aalto built 
for themselves between 1952 and 1954. The main 
idea that inspired this project wast the Ancient Roman 
Atrium that was reinterpreted by Aalto while using
50 different kinds of bricks on it.

When designing the plans for the Jyväskylä Institute 
of Pedagogics in 1951 Aalto envisioned this place to 
become the "Athens of the North" as he was inspired 
by the Greek Acropolis layout.

Querido Manuel,

La antigua Universidad Laboral de Sevilla, actual Universidad Pablo de Olavide, constituyó una gran operación urbanística para la ciudad que incluyó la apertura de la Avenida de Felipe II y sus conexiones hasta el nuevo campus. El conjunto se desarrolló a partir de dos partes fundamentales: las edificaciones centrales mas representativas que incluían el rectorado, la administración y los distintos Colegios, de carácter
formal y funcional gracias a su extrema linealidad y reiteración; y las edificaciones perimetrales dispersas para talleres y pabellones deportivos. La imagen de esta postal ofrece una vista desgraciadamente desaparecida de dos de los tres pabellones deportivos perimetrales con sus audaces cubiertas de hormigón armado, así como al fondo de la imagen algunos de los Colegios del área central y más allá la torre de entrada con sus 67 metros de altura.
Este conjunto, ejemplo notable de la modernidad arquitectónica en el sur de España, ofrece parecidos formales con algunas operaciones urbanísticas racionalistas italianas del segundo cuarto del siglo XX.

843. Decima Triennale di Milano. Il labirinto dei ragazzi
















Queridas Inés y Luisa,

El pabellón de las tres artes (arquitectura, escultura y pintura) de la Trienal de Milán de 1954 se planteó de una manera completamente didáctica, casi como si fuera un juego infantil. El juego planteado era explorar a través de tres laberínticas espirales los intrincados caminos del pabellón, para encontrar los deliciosos graffitis de Steinberg y una mágica escultura móvil de Calder.
