Dear Ingrid,

The 24-meter-high rotunda of the Stockholm Public 

Library is the round central book hall constrained

by the four exterior wings. The central rotunda

accommodates about 40,000 books and its original

linoleum floor pattern is based in the pattern on the

marble floor of the Pantheon in Rome. This geometric

pattern of squares and circles is also a reflection of

the library's architecture.

Querido Arne,

Cuando el famoso arquitecto Gunnar Asplund fue

designado como arquitecto jefe de la exposición y el 

profesor de arte y director de la Asociación de Artes 

y Oficios Gregor Paulsson como su comisario general, 

quedaban menos de dos años para llevar a cabo esta 

obra gigantesca.

Se dice que Asplund llevaba siempre guardado en el 

bolsillo de de la pechera de su chaqueta una nota que 

mostraba a los periodistas como respuesta a su 

recurrente pregunta sobre el cronograma de la 

exposición. La nota decía: "Si, estaremos listos a 

tiempo"

functionalist building as it was completed in 1932.

Querida Luz,

El arquitecto sueco Ivar Tengbom había terminado

en 1926 el icónico Palacio de Conciertos de 

Estocolmo cuando se embarcó en el diseño y la

construcción de la sede de la compañía Tändsticks.

Este edificio es un elocuente ejemplo de la

llamada "Gracia Sueca" en arquitectura, una corriente

caracterizada por su estilo neoclásico en las formas y 

profuso en detalles armoniosos y bellos.

escuela de primaria que Asplund construyó en 1917

y al fondo la ampliación de 1937. Esta última

constrasta fuertemente con la original pues fue

contruida en el estilo funcionalista de la época.

Querida María,

Hans Asplund, el arquitecto del centro comunal de

Eslöv, afirmó que al diseñar este edificio se inspiró

conscientemente o no en muchos detalles de la obra

de su padre, Erik Gunnar Asplund, lo que hizo

como un homenaje personal a este que había 

fallecido en 1940.
