Dear Tom,

"I have always tried to look at architecture
through an artistic lens. Art is the link between
an era and the next one." (Hans Hollein)

Dear Hans,

"When Jaap Bakema saw the store, he said:
"But, that is a built manifesto"" (Hans Hollein)

Dear Steve,

"A building is itself. Architecture is without a purpose,
What we build will find its usefulness." (Hans Hollein)

Querido Miguel,

El Museo de Mönchengladbach es una obra de arte
"transitable". Aqui la arquitectura se funde a traves de
la especial configuracion de sus espacios con las propias
obras de arte, llegando a confundirse una con las otras:
arquitectura como obra de arte expuesta.

Saludos,
R

Dear Johann,

"The shape of the building doesn't
develop out of the material condition
of its purpose. A building shall not
show its purpose. It is not an
expression of structure and
construction, it is not an enclosure or
refuge. A building is itself. Architecture
is without purpose. What we build will
find its usefulness."
(Hans Hollein 1963)

The Haas House in Vienna, in whose
facade one can see the mirror image of
St. Stephen's Cathedral, was designed
by architect Hans Hollein in 1989. The
building follows the line of ancient fortified
walls around the Roman camp on which
the building stands.

Regards.
