Dear Sara,

"Design is not about decorating functional forms;
it is about creating forms that accord with the
character of the object and that show new technologies
to advantage." (Peter Behrens)

Greetings,

2092. Zagreb. Jurišicèva Ulica.

Querido Pablo,

Besos,
R

1288. Zilina - Synagoga

Dear Art and Judith,

A vintage and beautiful image of the Neologic Synagogue
built in 1931 by Peter Behrens in Zilina, Slovakia. Since
2011 the building has been restored and partially reconstructed to bringing it back to its original conditions.

Best regards,
R

Hola Concha,

Besos y Feliz Navidad,
R

Dear Alice,

"Architecture is the art which is closest to reality"

(Peter Behrens)

All the best,

886. Das Haus Behrens

Dear Harry,

"It isn't from individual forms in nature that we can deduce a useful pattern or model, but from its structure, its construction, the mighty law of nature"
(Peter Behrens)

The father of the modern movement in architecture the
self-taught architect and industrial designer Peter Behrens, built his own house, in 1901 at the Darmstadt Artists' Colony. It was his first architectural commission and it represented for Behrens a turning point from the Arts and Crafts Movement ideas to a more ascetic and fresh way of design.

714. St.Petersbourg, Ambassade Allemagne

Dear John,

The German Embassy to the Russian Empire, in St.
Petersburg's St. Isaaks Platz, was designed by prominent
German architect Peter Behrens in just eight weeks. Mies
van der Rohe, an apprentice at the office of Behrens at
that time, was appointed as building construction manager.
Mies said much later that under Behrens he learned "the
grand form".

Best regards.

Dear Sarah,

The administration building for the I.G. Farben by Peter
Behrens, features a large hall along which offices are set.
The design of this hall emulates the spatial layout of the
Larkin Building by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Best.

395. Mannesmannhaus Dusseldorf

Dear Gio,

"Monumentality requires cubic compactness and creation
of large form" (Peter Behrens).
But he claimed also that the Mannesmann Building derives
from an analysis of use.

323. Berlin. Alexanderplatz

Querida Regina,

Besos.

32. Berlin. Besuch bei der AEG

Bob,

This is the Peter Behrens AEG Turbine Hall in Berlin.
It is considered by many the first great 20th-century
expresion of pure functionalist architecture. Steel and
glass used on a very large scale, without decoration
of any kind for the first time. The two corner pillars
have only a binding and enclosing function and
therefore are made of another material: concrete.
Such a high honesty in the architecture in contrast
with the fake clouds displayed in the postcard is
somehow funny to me.
