Querido Manolo,

(Hans Scharoun)

Un abrazo desde aquí.

Dear Sybille,

"Education is not just the development of intellectual
capabilities, not just the achievement of particular
knowledge and abilities: it is a process which allows
the bringing together and developing of all faculties.
Therefore learning must be in harmony with the
child’s growth and development, and the school,
like the home, must stand as evidence that the earth
is a good place to dwell." (Hans Scharoun)

1807. Das Wohnheim. WuWa Wohnung und Werkraum. Breslau

Querida Cristina,

Besos,
R

Dear Martin,

"Humans are intruders and not part of this world.
Their way of being in the world is not to dwell in it,
but to seek wellbeing in it"
(José Ortega y Gasset)

1396. Berlin, Potsdamer brucle mit Staatsbibliothek

Querida Cristina,

Muchos besos,

Dear Werner,

"One wishes to see something of the boldness of
modern ship structures transferred to the design of
houses and thus hopes to overcome the fussiness
and narrowness of today's housing" (Hans Scharoun)

181. Berlin-Siedlung Charlottenburg-Nord

Dear Jorg,

In this housing estate designed by Scharoun in Berlin,
rows of buildings are graduated in length and height
including a large variety of typed of flats. Scharoun
himself moved in to one of the studio flats at
Charlottenburg-Nord.

Regards.
R

118. Berlin, Staatsbibliothek

Dear Jan,

Here's the Staatsbibliothek with its famous stockroom
also known as "the spine of the book". Jacques Herzog
said he used to love Scharoun's work. He found it
ugly, strange, very real and unreal at the same time.
He loved the aluminum gold clad so they intended
to clad in gold the skylights of the Photo Studio Frei
but it was too expensive and problematic.

All the best.

8. Berlin. Philharmonie

Dear Jan,

I was very sad when I heard the Berlin Philharmonie
was on fire. Eventually I am glad the firefighters could control the blaze.

Hope everything else is going well.
All the best.
