2131. Vara, Lagerhuset

Querido Miguel Angel,

Esta es una vista de uno de los 9 silos que Erik
Gunnar Asplund proyectó en 1918. Este, situado
en la localidad sueca de Vara, es el único que se
mantiene en uso como silo.

Un abrazo,
R

Dear Nils,

"That there should be a correspondence between the
shape and the construction is a saying one must take
with a grain of salt." (Erik Gunnar Asplund)

Sincerely,

Dear Colin,

...Words strain,
Crack and sometimes break, under the burden,
Under the tension, slip, slide, perish,
Decay with imprecision, will not stay in place

(T.S. Eliot, Tradition and the Individual Talent)

Dear Jo,

Michel de Klerk is one of the most

important architect in Dutch modern
history. Michel de Klerk, Piet Kramer,
and
Jo van der Mey founded the
Amsterdam School in 1916. The
architects of this movement explored
and created new forms that reflected
their vision of a new society.

Dear Maristella,

The villa Beukenhoekk designed by M. Kropholler
in 1916/18 has the silhouette of a ship. Furthermore
the visitor to the house crosses a bridge to reach the
entrance. The front yard projected forward as a sea
of a grass. The metaphor of shipping, as appealing in
the Amsterdam School architecture inspired much
later on the house Figueiredo in Gondomar designed
by Alvaro Siza in 1984.

Regards.
