2453. Christchurch - Lyttelton Road Tunnel Plaza

Dear Gustavo,

The Lyttleton tunnel Building, built in 1964 and 

demolished in 2013 following severe earthquakes 

that damaged the structure, was a brilliant piece 

of sculptural design. The building's design 

incorporated elements reflecting the maritime 

heritage of Lyttelton Harbor.

2450. The Town Hall, Wanganui, NZ

 

Dear Sidney,

The War Memorial Hall, Wanganui, is considered 

to be one of the finest examples of New Zealand 

modernist architecture. It won the New Zealand 

Institute of Architects Gold Medal in 1961 and the 

Institute's 25-Year Award in 1998. 

It remains a focal point for the community, and a 

key building in Wanganui's Civic Centre. It has 

cultural and symbolic significance as the city's 

main war memorial.

Dear Isabella,

Scottish architect Basil Spence built the "Beehive" to house the executive wing of the New Zealand Parliament buildings in Wellington. Spence is also famous for having designed the extraordinary Coventry Cathedral in England.
