Pavel Weisz, arquitecto eslovaco que estudió en 

Berlín y trabajó en la Unión Soviética regresó a su 

país donde ejerció como arquitecto funcionalista. 

Entre sus obras más significativas se encuentran 

los vecinos Hotel Excelsior y Hotel Eden en la 

ciudad natal del arquitecto Piešťany.

Querido Rafa,

La Villa Tugendhat, una de los hitos indiscutibles

de la Arquitectura Moderna, fue proyectada y 

construida en 1930 por Ludwig Mies van der Rohe 

en las afueras de Brno. Es en esta casa, donde se 

materializa la idea del espacio habitable fluyente y 

continuo.

Querido Arne,

Cuando el famoso arquitecto Gunnar Asplund fue

designado como arquitecto jefe de la exposición y el 

profesor de arte y director de la Asociación de Artes 

y Oficios Gregor Paulsson como su comisario general, 

quedaban menos de dos años para llevar a cabo esta 

obra gigantesca.

Se dice que Asplund llevaba siempre guardado en el 

bolsillo de de la pechera de su chaqueta una nota que 

mostraba a los periodistas como respuesta a su 

recurrente pregunta sobre el cronograma de la 

exposición. La nota decía: "Si, estaremos listos a 

tiempo"

y en la más dura crítica hacia la misma.

Pavel Weisz fue un arquitecto eslovaco que estudió

en Berlín y trabajó posteriormente en la Unión

Soviética. Tras esto regresó a su país donde

ejerció como arquitecto funcionalista. Entre sus

obras más significativas se encuentran los 

vecinos Hotel Excelsior y Hotel Eden en la 

ciudad natal del arquitecto Piešťany.

This lovely postcard from  Ljubljana features

many buildings designed by famous Slovenian

architect Jože Plečnik including from bottom left

and counterclockwise the Central Market, 

St. Michael's Church, the Žale Cemetery, the 

National and University Library, the Triple Bridge, 

and the Palace of  Vzajemna Zavarovalnica mutual 

insurer.

This last building was a commercial and residencial

building designed in a style associated with 

the Vienna Secession and particularly with Otto 

Wagner's Vienna Palaces.

The Töölö Church was the result of an architectural 

competition that was won by Hilding Ekelund  and 

then built in 1930.  Later in his life Ekelund became 

city architect of Helsinki.

1970. Breslau. Tauentzienplatz, Wetheim

 

Dear Beata,

The luxurious and very modern Wertheim Department 

Store was opened in 1930 and violently closed by the 

National Socialist seven years later. 

Happily, the building survived the war aftermath and 

after several renovations and extensions it was 

finally re-opened in 2009.
