187. Embassy Court from the Sunken Garden, Brighton

Dear Paulo

In 1936 Embassy Court was
completed, being the first penthouse
block of flats built in the UK.
Referring to this building, the
architect, Wells Coates said:
"Old ideas have been discarded and
a new building has arisen to greet a
new age that think of happiness in
terms of health"

186. Laboratorio de Genetica, Centro de Investigaciones Biologicas, Madrid

Querida Rosi,

Picasso, no solo rechazo
Hombre-niño-genio descarado...

Saludos

Dear Alvaro

always. A project is a desire,
I imagine an erotic vision of life."

183. Haus Tugendhat

Querido Antonio,

182. Bruxelles Expo 58 Pavillon de la Finlande

Dear Raili,

Reima Pietila said about his Finnish Pavilion for
the Brussels World's Fair:
"My Brussels idea had to do with spatial modulation.
It came, of course, from Blomstedt...As an exhibition
building, this type of antifunctional functionalism is
alright."

181. Berlin-Siedlung Charlottenburg-Nord

Dear Jorg,

In this housing estate designed by Scharoun in Berlin,
rows of buildings are graduated in length and height
including a large variety of typed of flats. Scharoun
himself moved in to one of the studio flats at
Charlottenburg-Nord.

180. Stockholm. Stadshuset

Paulina,

charlar.

Cuidate.

179. Museu Serralves

Dear Julia,

Siza said talking about his own architecture that
he tries to design in such a way
...that the whole and the parts generate themselves
and mutually influence each other...
Here in the Serralves Foundation we could see that.

All the best.

178. Como. Monumento ai Caduti

Paco,

Me he levantado de madrugada
Mas tarde me he levantado y me he ido a buscar algun
quedado alli, aun discutiendo. Al alejarme he leido
"STANOTTE SI DORME A TRIESTE O IN PARADISO
CON GLI EROI". 10 Ottobre 1916

Abrazos.

Jan,

The "private perch," as Gehry called
it,a kind of life-guard, is a tiny studio
with a panoramic view. A great spot
to spend time gazing out the beach.

176. Secessions Ausstellung Wien

Dear Melissa,

This wonderful Secessionhaus building notable for
its basic volumes and well-balanced distribution,
teems with incredible decorations so striking that
makes it one of the most important moments in the
transition between the late 19th century architecture
and the modern movement.

Cheers and thanks for the compliments.

175. Mainz. Panorama Rheinufer mit Dom und Rathaus

Dear Silke,

Here is a beautiful view with the Town Hall of Mainz
designed by Arne Jacobsen and built in 1973. The
geometrical rigor of the building floor plan is strongly
influenced by the architecture of Louis Kahn. The new
building mass works as an interesting counterbalance
to that of the city's cathedral.

174. Suomi Finnland, Turku-Abo

Dear Alvaro,

Today we visited the Resurrection
Chapel in Turku. When the architect
of this extraordinary building died and
his funeral was held someone said:
"There are gifted people, who by God
are bestowed with a talent so wonderful
that things literally blossom from their
hands"

Sincerely.
