El diseño del histórico Prudential Building en 

Buffalo N.Y. corrió a cargo de Louis Sullivan y

Adler Dankmar que siguieron la conocida máxima 

de que la forma sigue a la función. 

Así, los arquitectos dividieron el edificio en partes: 

el sótano que alberga la parte mecánica y de 

servicios comunes, las primeras plantas que

contienen las zonas de acceso público y tiendas,

las plantas superiores que contienen oficinas,

aseos públicos, escaleras y ascensores, y finalmente 

la planta ático mas superior donde están los 

castilletes de escaleras, maquinaria de ascensores, 

tanques de agua y otros servicios comunes.

Sullivan pensaba que un edificio en altura debía 

ser en cada centímetro algo glorioso y espléndido, 

que se eleva con puro júbilo porque desde abajo 

hasta arriba es una unidad sin una sola línea 

disidente.

The Lyttleton tunnel Building, built in 1964 and 

demolished in 2013 following severe earthquakes 

that damaged the structure, was a brilliant piece 

of sculptural design. The building's design 

incorporated elements reflecting the maritime 

heritage of Lyttelton Harbor.

Dear Sidney,

The War Memorial Hall, Wanganui, is considered 

to be one of the finest examples of New Zealand 

modernist architecture. It won the New Zealand 

Institute of Architects Gold Medal in 1961 and the 

Institute's 25-Year Award in 1998. 

It remains a focal point for the community, and a 

key building in Wanganui's Civic Centre. It has 

cultural and symbolic significance as the city's 

main war memorial.

La Iglesia de San Pedro en Trissino fue inaugurada

en 1971 en ocasión del Concilio Vaticano II. 

Su arquitecto fue Antonio Nervi, hijo de Pier Luigi

Nervi, asistido por el ingeniero Francesco Vacchini.

El gran espacio circular de 50 metros de diámetro 

está cubierto por una única cúpula de hormigón 

armado con nervaduras entrelazadas geomėtricamente.

Querido Manolo,

La Casa Batlló es un edificio construido originalmente

en 1877 por Emili Sala Cortés que casualmente fue un

profesor de arquitectura de Gaudí. En 1903 el edificio 

fue adquirido por el industrial y empresario textil Josep

Batlló i Casanovas que dio total libertad creativa a 

Gaudí encargándole parte del programa que de alguna

forma implicaba la demolición del edificio existente.

Sin embargo Gaudí decidió llevar a cabo una renovación

total entre 1904 y 1906 que conllevó un cambio radical 

de fachada, una redistribución profunda de las plantas incluyendo ampliación del patio de luces hasta convertirla en una obra de arte total. 

Hoy esta casa es parte del patrimonio universal de la 

UNESCO y recibe mas de un millón de visitas al año.

Dear Josef,

Architect Albert Aalbers worked in the Netherlands 

between 1924 and 1930 and then migrated to the Dutch 

East Indies. In Bandung, the DENIS bank (the present-day Bank Jabar) and the Savoy Homann Hotel (last 

renovated by Aalbers) still carry Aalber's ocean wave 

ornamentation.

La avenida de los Manatiales en Torremolinos con las 

tres torres al fondo. Obra magistral de Luis Alfonso 

Pagán con fuertes referencias a Torres Blancas de 

Saénz de Oiza. Pagán explica quec“cada vivienda es 

una vivienda jardín aplicando el mismo concepto de 

cualquier vivienda unifamiliar en una urbanización: 

se accede a ella desde un distribuidor ajardinado, 

por la terraza que se extiende hacia el exterior, al sol 

y al mar y, de esta, se pasa al interior de la vivienda”.

El complejo residencial Los Manantiales está 

compuesto por tres torres de 18 plantas con un 

total de 240 apartamentos (cinco apartamentos de 

74 m2 por planta), un hotel con 45 habitaciones, 

zona comercial a pie de calle, áreas verdes, piscina 

y un solarium en la cubierta.
