2377. Des Moines Art Center

Dear Frank,

"This eloquent and masterful building, completed in
1968, profoundly enhanced the Art Center while
respecting the materials palette and scale of the original
Saarinen building." (Tim Hickman)

2376. Barcelona, Casa Calvet. Calle Caspe 43.

Dear Sammy,

Seven buildings designed by Gaudí
are on the UNESCO World Heritage
List, but Casa Calvet was the only one
in that list to receive an award in
Gaudí's lifetime: the most beautiful
building completed in 1900 according
to the Barcelona City Council.

All the best,
R

2375. Cervinia, Breuil, Châlet Pirovano

Dear Luigi,

"Modern architecture does not consist in the use of
new materials and construction techniques: all means
of construction are valid at all times, provided they
are logical and still efficient." (Franco Albini)

Best regards,

2374. Otaniemi Otnäs. Suomi, Finland.

Dear Raima,

Niin metsä vastaa, kuin sinne huudetaan.
(The forest answers in the same way one
shouts at it)
(Finnish Saying)

All the best,
R

2373. Iglesia nueva de la Asunción. El Pont de Suert, Lleida.

Dear José Luis,

"There are three different but interconnected
conceptions to be considered in every structure,
and in every structural element involved:
equilibrium, resistance, and stability."
(Eduardo Torroja)

Con afecto,

2372. Hamburger Kunsthalle. Galerie der Gegenwart.

Querido Manolo,

humana." (Imre Makovecz)

Besos,
R

2370. Expo 92. Pabellón de Japón

Dear Kazuyo,

"The individual who makes a work is not
important; good work has timelessness that
naturally appeals to people in its own right."
(Tadao Ando)

Respectfully,
R

2369. The Glass House

Dear Catherine,

"But the Glass House was of course, the center of activity.
It did become - you couldn't be a Yale student if you hadn't
been down to see it-. I chose New Canaan because Breuer
lived there, and Johansen, and Noyes, and I could teach
at Yale and be connected." (Philip Jonhson)

All the best,
