446. Chateau Chavat. Podensac (Gironde)

Dear Claudio,

Le Corbusier build this water tower in Podensac, near
Bordeaux, in 1917. That year he moved to Paris and
became a consultant architect to SABA (Societe
d'Application du Béton Armé) for which he designed
this tower and a few other projects.

445. Viipuri. Hirvipatsaalta 22 10 42

Querida Clara,

La biblioteca de Viipuri de Aalto se terminó en 1935
cuando esa ciudad era parte de Finlandia. Después de
la Segunda Guerra Mundial pasó a ser una ciudad
de la Federación de Estados Soviéticos. Desde
entonces, la biblioteca ha sufrido un abandono tal que
ha estado a punto de desaparecer. Sin embargo desde
2005 se ha empezado un largo proceso de restauración
que aunque aún continúa, ha hecho que vaya
recuperándose la arquitectura de este maravilloso 

edificio que durante tanto tiempo estuvo perdida

442. Mercado Libertad. Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico

Querida Olga,

Este es el fascinante Mercado Libertad que se 

encuentra en Guadalajara, México. Su arquitecto, 

nacido en Viena pero nacionalizado mejicano, fue Alejandro Zohn que lo diseñó y construyó en 1959. 

Los grandes vanos libres están salvados a través de numerosos paraboloides hiperbólicos que resuelven 

al mismo tiempo el tema de la ventilación e 

iluminación cenital. La influencia del gran Felix
Candela es por otro lado palpable.

Querido Manolo,

El en su tiempo muy polemico Edificio Novocomun, que
Terragni proyecto cuando tenia tan solo 23 años, era ya
poco despues de acabado tema principal en algunas
tarjetas postales de la epoca. Esta, que ahora te dedico,
fue enviada el 1 de septiembre de 1931, es decir 3 años
despues de acabada la obra. Por aquel entonces Terragni
estaba ocupado con dos proyectos a los Caidos, el de
Erba y el de Como y dibujando su obra maestra: la Casa
del Fascio de Como.

Aun te echo de menos.

Querido Abuela Amparo,

En esta maravillosa Exposición de Estocolmo hay de todo. Después de ver los modernisimos pabellones hemos
acabado en la explanada delante del Restaurante Paraiso.
De entre los pequeños locales que hay dando a la galería
porticada hemos ido a la peluquería a hacernos un buen
corte de pelo. Luego hemos ido arriba a cenar y a bailar
bajo unos simbólicos Adam, Eva y la manzana que nos
recordaban continuamente que estabamos en el Paraiso.

Helsinki in 1936 initially as a temporary structure.
Designed by three young designers, it is considered the
most impressive functionalist commercial building in
Finland still standing.

435. Kunnantalo Alajarvi, Finland

Querido Enric,

Hoy hemos llegado a la pequeña localidad de Alajarvi 

al oeste de Finlandia. Este pueblo es basicamente de
caracter rural y cuenta con unos 10,000 habitantes que
hablan mayoritariamente solo fines. El Ayuntamiento 

fue diseñado por Alvar Aalto y se terminó en 1969. 

Lo rural y lo moderno se unen aqui de una manera 

completamente natural y sin fisuras...como tantas cosas en este maravilloso país.

The Sarasota City Hall, designed in 1966 by Jack West
is a remarkable example of the Sarasota school of
architecture, a regional adaptation of Modernist architecture
that was introduced in Southern Florida in the 1940s.
Other architects of this school include Ralph Twitchell,
Paul Rudolph, Tim Seibert, Gene Leedy and Victor Lundy.

413. Park Hotel, Barcelona

Querido Juan Lu,

Esta es una postal del famoso Park Hotel construido 

por Antoni de Moragas en 1953. De él se puede decir 

que su fachada principal, que es la más corta, está emparentada con el racionalismo holandés, 

especialmente con las obras de Duiker; pero que el edificio en su conjunto está más cerca del clasicismo moderno de Adolf Loos e incluso de ciertas obras de Alvar Aalto.
